The Job

The story, typically of Brecht, is rich in theatre possibilities. Brecht himself based his story on a real-life account published in a German newspaper, of a woman who transformed herself into her dead husband only to seize a job as a night watchman in a factory. In reinterpreting this story for the stage, the performer creates a contemporary character who finds events of the story ‘revealed’ to her as she goes about her daily activities. Mrs. Hausmann became a man in a matter of days.
